CANDLES SERIES
The Candles series comprises a collection of pictorial altars where space, materiality, and ritual converge. Through intersecting geometric planes and lines held in tension, each piece generates a centrifugal dynamism that evokes a subtle movement radiating from an invisible core.
These paintings function as windows that open and close at different moments of light. From an interior—whether that of a person or a space—the candle stands as a primordial source of illumination, evoking the spiritual and contemplative, and forming a kind of altar.
Rooted in a geometric language, the works transport us to landscapes where light filters through, tracing ephemeral contours and transforming the planes. This internal dynamism invites reflection on the intimate while simultaneously opening onto the threshold of reverie and imagination.
The series will develop as a tribute to several artists whose work I admire and which connects directly to these themes—for example, Louise Nevelson and her assembled altars, or Jannis Kounellis with his raw retables, the poetic use of candles, and the trace of smoke in his pieces.
